How we got from there to here
plus a few thoughts about whats next

In the Beginning...

... there were five friends, a Bible and an out-of-tune guitar. When we think about the early days of soulcity we are filled with gratitude. We began as we have continued, full of hope, expectation and laughter.

In October 2017 we launched soulcity church in a beautiful, small coffee shop in Stockport town centre. We told people that we would be a church that would always look out for the outsider. Within a few months the church was exploding, full of life and we had to search for a new home...

Church in a Cinema

In January 2018 we moved to the Light Cinema. We had enough money to pay for the first three months rent and after that we were relying on God. We continued to grow and saw unexpected numbers of people turn up and start following Jesus. It really felt like a movement had begun.

Within a year we had outgrown our screen and in 2019 we moved from our 75 seater to a 145 seater screen. Alongside this we served the town with community action and outreach events. SoulFest was born. It was at this time that we realised that this church was not a community but a family.

A Year of Change

In 2021 we grew to capacity within the Light Cinema and moved to the Mill. The space was pretty tired and after months of intensive work, we have a permanent new home to grow as a community and reach out to others. Our heart is to be a church that brings together people from all kinds of backgrounds, united through the hope we find in Jesus. In the coming year, we also have plans to start new churches as leaders develop within our community.

In the midst of an uncertain year with more chaos and uncertainty than any that we have known before this one. We have found that our anchor is in Jesus. And so as we push forward to reach more people, we still proclaim that our vision is Jesus and nothing else.
